1966 Plymouth Belvedere Hemi

Old school bare bone hemi car. Nothing fancy big engine four speed and a bench. Excellent restoration on this real-deal, authentic Hemi car with the all-important “H” engine code in the VIN and “73” beneath the “AB” positions on the fender tag and all the other distinctive marks of a hemi car. They’re the respective factory identifiers for the 426 Street Hemi. According to other codes, the car was built in St. Louis. It is also an original four-speed car. It has been restored to match all of the build codes on the fender tag. We understand that it has always been a rust-free car and all of the body panels, floor pans, and rocker panels are original. 

The 426 Hemi engine in this Belvedere has been rebuilt, with some internal enhancements designed to “optimize performance and driveability,” which included camshaft and piston upgrades, among others. From the outward appearances, however, this Street Hemi “looks factory-stock, right down to the original and correctly coded intake manifold and carburetors. There’s also a custom Jet Hot-coated 3-inch exhaust system. The four-speed manual transmission channels the Hemi’s torque to a 3.54-geared Dana 60 rear axle.

The Bright Red paintwork — a respray of the original “PP1” paint code — has been color-sanded and buffed. 

The chassis, suspension, and brake elements have been restored to stock condition. The car is equipped with manual brakes and steering. There are no drivability issues and no vibrations and the car rolls on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires mounted on Magnum 500 wheels. The tires show almost all of their tread remaining and the wheels are in very good condition, with no blemishes. 

Additional paperwork includes Chrysler historical collection research documents corroborating its production history. The photos show a very well detailed and very clean restoration, and published records indicate only 335 Belvedere II models were equipped with a Hemi engine and a four-speed transmission. That makes this 1966 Plymouth Belvedere II Hemi a rare, early Street Hemi Mopar muscle car — and one that appears ready to show, drive, or both!
